A growing category of products in the watch market is to replace aftermarket products instead of mimicking original products, but to improve or change the look and feel of the watch. One of the companies that entered this category was Everest Horology. On August 10, 2012, Everest Band released the EH-1, a medical-grade silicone strap specifically designed for Rolex sports watches, including Explorer II, Submariner, DeepSea and GMT. Unlike most other replacement straps, the Everest EH-1 is designed to fit the Rolex watch head, much like the original Rolex Oyster bracelet.
Everest Horology is not the first company to manufacture replacement silicone straps for Rolex. Another company, RubberB, has been producing silicone replacement tapes for nearly two years, and it’s easy to compare the two because they all like details and quality. Although the Everest Horology and RubberB straps look similar, the Everest EH-1 strap is completely scratch-free and does not attempt to mimic Rolex’s Oyster bracelet. The Everest EH-1 watch has a slightly different shape than the Rolex Oyster watchband and RubberB watch strap, except for the Oyster belt attached to the strap’s head end. One notable difference between the design of Mount Everest and RubberB is that Everest was designed for Rolex’s Easy Link, a half-link extension hidden under Rolex’s new Oyster buckle. In addition, Everest Horology’s EH-1 band is made in the US, and RubberB’s strap is made in Switzerland.
Rolex did a lot of things. Rolex’s sapphire crystal watch with a unique cyclops, similar to the tractor’s movement and patented waterproof shell, is the definition of a tool watch. Although Rolex has many patents and technical achievements, Rolex completely missed some aspects. The nighttime visibility and amount of lumens on the Rolex dial and hands are always a criticism, and “tuna cans” are just as practical and rarely fail like buttons and bracelet links, but are often criticized when paired with other brands. Many of the vintage Rolex watches now have no original bracelets, as this is the first worn item. For decades, Rolex’s glacier-like design has changed and has always remained “evolving” rather than “revolutionary,” leaving classic watches to improve.
There are two types of changes when it comes to Rolex watches being “better.” The first is an obvious imitation of the original Rolex modification, such as an improved dial and bezel usually with diamonds, or modified colors that make the dial look like a good original from a collector (such as the Paul Newman Daytona dial). The second, more sensible category is a clear design modification to improve Rolex’s design and provide owner options for Rolex. Options such as different straps and sapphire bottom covers provide Rolex owners with more features than the original factory model. Just as how AMG has modified the Mercedes-Benz manufacturer’s approval and BMW’s M-series subsidiary, the replacement strap and bottom cover provide Rolex with user-installable features, but unlike car modification companies, these modifications can be replaced. Back to the factory for a while.
The Rolex Oyster bracelet is one of the most durable and recognizable bracelets on replica rolex Swiss watches. Its trademark oyster appearance is recognized globally, and other watch brands can also see its variants. Oyster bracelets are durable, but for sports watches, sometimes bracelets need to be slightly relaxed or stretched, or lighter – similar to the comfort of a belt, and water resistance. In hot and sweaty conditions, the wristband needs to expand when the wrist is heated. This is one reason why silicone straps are not affected by UV light or breakage, and many sports watches are equipped with silicone straps. Finally, for athletes, wearing a stainless steel strap when running or cycling often produces good results because, in the absence of a better term, black sweat waste consists of dirt and sweat, formed under a stainless steel strap. This black rubbish can only be washed away with soap and water.
There are not many companies that produce high-quality silicone tape because it is more than satisfying the eye. Both Everest Horology and RubberB stated that the production of silicone straps is a cumbersome effort for Rolex to be passionate about Rolex and to improve the wearing experience of Rolex watches. The number of trials and errors in prototypes and the number of manuals required for each belt make designing and manufacturing belts a boring endeavor. Since the silicone strap is not hand-stitched or hand-cut, most people think that the strap is ejected from the production mold, enters the package and comes off the retailer. But in fact, high-quality silicone tapes require clean rooms that are cured, cleaned, formed/trimmed, vulcanized and coated to provide the same level of quality and durability for Rolex watches. Many people associate silicone with rubber, but in reality they are completely different. The only thing is “rubber,” a material made directly from rubber trees. Everest Horology uses “medical grade silicone rubber,” which is a strict specification that exceeds FDA standards and must have no reaction with the human body.
